The Week of Mishappery!
Could it be my life is a series of comedic mishaps, frantic confusions, and stunningly bad timing? Well, sort of. It usually reserves itself for week-long periods, so that once the tide begins it attains its own momentum, has its own life and thought.
In the past week, I have....
lost my beloved digital camera! (no more pictures of food, scenery, or oberlin for some time, i am sorry to say)
dropped my cell phone in the rain, upon which I had to look for about 10 minutes till i found it in 2 parts, dismembered by the thunder-god.
played bolero on an audition, but somehow managed to forget to tongue the first note. upon the wispy sound of my air, i shuddered, blinked a lot, and lunged at it again. from there it was downhill...
sat on my glasses. not my first time. not since middle school, though! if i can keep those kind of time periods going, that will be some accomplishment!
got lost on the way to the half-marathon. then, with 5 seconds to go before the start, felt my pocket and realized my key was missing. this, the only key to my car (the copy is in philadelphia, which is another area of my stupidity). as everyone started running, i stood still, frantically questioning: do i run or do i freak out? i freaked out, though within slight bounds, and soon, with the help of some race-workers, found my key! i lost about 2 minutes in the race, my estimate. this is important for 2 reasons. my goal was between 1:45 and 1:50, and to get a medal in my age group (only 4 people running!). i ran an offical 1:46:20, and was passed at 12.5 miles by 2 people in my age group, who beat me by about 2 seconds in the end. NOOOOO! i don't care what they say, in my heart the trophy is mine! phooey! the last 3 miles were an experience unlike any i've had before, and when i was done i was surprised to see my face caked in salt! i looked like i had been in a freezer for a we hours or something!
and now i sit here, praise the earth that the week is over, and smile! on towards greater (or at least less hectic) things!
